OVERVIEW :
Pitt Point
Punta Pitt is located at the eastern end of San Cristóbal Island. It includes a beach path of approximately 90 meters with several natural viewpoints.
It is composed of volcanic tuff substrate. It is the only place on the islands where you can observe the three species of boobies (blue-footed, red-footed and masked) and the two species of frigate birds nesting in the same area. The reason why the three species of boobies are found at Punta Pitt is due to the geographical location; enough food is found so there is no competition between them. Blue-footed boobies nest inland (rarely on cliffs), red-footed boobies nest on bushes, and masked boobies nest on cliffs.
To visit protected sites in the Galapagos Islands, such as Punta Pitt beach in this case, it is mandatory to have a certified naturalist guide. Visitors must be accompanied by an authorized guide to ensure respect and preservation of the ecosystem.
Once you arrive on the island, you can join an organized excursion to visit Playa Punta Pitt, day trip.
Punta Pitt Beach is not directly accessible by boat, so it usually involves a hike. The trails can be rocky and challenging in places, so make sure you wear appropriate footwear and are in good physical condition.
