The Cracks
Las Grietas are one of the most representative geological formations of Santa Cruz Island, which you cannot miss on your visit to the Galapagos Islands.
On a land tour accompanied by a naturalist guide from the Galapagos National Park, in which a water taxi will pick you up at the El Velero Dock and take you to the Punta Estrada Dock, where in a walk of approximately 25 minutes, you will be able to visit the Pools. Salinas, Punta Estrada Beach or Los Alemanes, Bahía Franklin Viewpoint and will end in Las Grietas.
What should you know?
Las Grietas are located in the Punta Estrada neighborhood, west of Bahía Academia, at a distance of 2.5 km from the Gus Angermeyer tourist dock.
This is a site within the protected area where the company of a naturalist guide from the Galapagos National Park is needed.
It is an open area, but you have to take certain precautions on the path, which is volcanic rock and dirt.
Due to the conditions of the place and capacity control, the time to visit this place is limited.
Visiting hours: 7:30 a.m. – 17:30 p.m.

Las Grietas has two types of water: the superficial, fresh water that arrives through filtration and the deeper, salty sea water. The mixture of the two is called brackish water. Thanks to its transparent waters, it is a popular area among bathers and fans of snorkeling and freediving.
